Overview
The J6 represents the Joint Services Detachment, South Carolina Military Department with Command, Control, Communications, and Computers/Cyber (C4/Cyber) requirements validation and capability development processes while ensuring joint interoperability with other South Carolina state entities. To further this effort, the J6 promulgates guidance and provides functional expertise to the Adjutant General and Governor to shape the joint information environment.
Mission
1. The J6 provides strategic guidance and technical expertise to the South Carolina Adjutant General and Governor on command, control, communications, and computer/cyber operations. The J6 advises them on how to leverage C4/Cyber capabilities to enhance the readiness, security, and resilience of the state's military and civilian networks, systems, and infrastructure.
2. One of the main objectives of the J6 is to train its members in the skills and knowledge of C4/Cyber, which is the integration of command, control, communications, computers, and cyber operations. By doing so, the J6 aims to enhance its capabilities and readiness to support the joint force in various domains and scenarios. In addition, the J6 also seeks to develop Cyber Associates outside the J6. This means that the J6 will collaborate with other sections and external partners to share best practices, provide training opportunities, and foster a culture of cyber awareness and resilience across the organization.
3. Cyber security is a vital aspect of any organization's operations, especially for those that are underserved and vulnerable to cyber threats. We offer cyber security industry best practices and connections to available resources as a compliment to underserved entities existing security infrastructure. Our goal is to help them protect their infrastructure and data from unauthorized access and damage. We provide guidance, training, tools, and support to enhance their cyber resilience and mitigate risks.
