BG JOHN W. GEIGER
Brigadier General John Geiger commands the Joint Services Detachment, South Carolina Military Department. He retired as a Colonel from the Army Reserve after 28 years of Active and Reserve service. His active-duty roles included Executive Officer in an Airborne Infantry Company in Alaska, Infantry Company Commander in Vietnam with the First Infantry Division, and Instructor at the US Army Transportation School.
In the Reserves, BG Geiger served in Operations & Training, as Inspector General, and Deputy Chief of Staff across three Major US Army Reserve Commands. He commanded the 360th Civil Affairs Brigade (Airborne) and held roles in the 352d CA Command and as Comptroller for USACAPOC. Joining the South Carolina State Guard in 2005, he supported disaster planning and relief, serving as Commander of the 5th Civil Affairs Brigade, State Guard Chief of Staff, and Commander, First Brigade (Midlands).
A West Point graduate, BG Geiger also completed the Command and General Staff College and Army War College. His decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Valor, Bronze Star for Service, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.
Retired from the U.S. Department of Energy after 35 years, he served as a Supervisory Engineer, managing projects and innovating nuclear and chemical facility cleanup.Â
BG Geiger is married to Jean May of Bethesda, Maryland, with two children and four grandchildren.
