COL JAMES PETERSON, JR.
LTC DWIGHT WESSINGER
Chaplain (LTC) Dwight C. Wessinger, ordained as an ELCA minister at St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran from 1978 to 2016, was commissioned into the South Carolina Military Department’s Joint Service Detachment on May 21, 2016. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970 at Langley Air Force Base with the 316th Tactical Airlift Wing in administration and helped establish the Navigator Interdenominational Ministry at multiple military bases. Between 1970 and 1984, he completed requirements to become an Air Force Chaplain but declined a position to focus on civilian ministry after discernment. He currently serves as the JSD Chaplain, leading classes and services for Post/Job Challenge Academy Cadets. Wessinger holds a Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and a BA in Sociology from Newberry College, where he was Men’s Dormitory Director and selected for Who’s Who Among Students. He also studied Business Administration at Columbia Commercial College and graduated from Chapin High School. He is married to Bunny B. Wessinger, with a daughter, Lisa, son-in-law, Evan, and grandsons, Calvin and Wes.
LTC MELVIN ADAMS
The Comptroller is responsible for the accounting and reporting for the funds received and expended by the JSSC as approved by the Board of Directors for the JSSC. The Comptroller is also responsible for maintaining compliance with the IRS' and the SC Secretary of State's annual reporting requirements to ensure the JSSC continues to qualify as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
COL CURTIS HASKINS (ASSOCIATE)
Born on January 13, 1956, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy, Curtis currently serves as Director of the Medical Directorate for the Joint Services Detachment of the South Carolina Military Department (Associate). He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on May 29, 1975, serving two years and three months, with training as a Basic Airman at Lackland AFB (1975), and as a Language and Voice Processing Specialist at Goodfellow AFB (1975). Curtis completed CERT training with the SC State Guard in 2015. His civilian education includes a high school diploma from Rutherford High School in London (1972), an AS in Business Administration from Northern Virginia Community College (1979), a BA in Business Administration from George Washington University (1983), an MD from the Medical College of Virginia (1988), a General Surgery Residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (1991), and a Family Medicine Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (1994). Additional training includes Advanced Trauma Life Support (1996–2004), Advanced Cardiac and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (1997–2013), and membership in the Charleston County Emergency Preparedness Division (1996–1998). Curtis received the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (1975–1977) and the Army of Occupation Medal (1976).
